Travelodge by Wyndham Kamloops Mountview

For what we paid, the Travelodge met our needs. I’d put the rating closer to 3.5-3.7, but chose 4 because they seem to be doing the best they can with what they have, and the place is fine overall. The suite came with cookware, prep utensils, and a modern hot plate, which wasn’t mentioned in the listing and was a welcome surprise. Staff were friendly and knew their stuff at check-in, checkout, and around the hotel. The room was clean on the surface. Both TVs had Chromecasts, the internet was reliable at standard speeds with several devices connected, and breakfast included fresh waffles along with the usual continental choices like fruit, baked goods, and cereal. The shower had good temperature and pressure, and the room had an apartment-sized fridge and freezer. The microwave was spotless, too. There are a few easy things to improve. The vinyl plank floors should be mopped or steam-cleaned between bookings. Some cosmetic parts of the room are showing their age, though nothing seriously affected our stay. The dish sponge they left looked past its prime. It was over 30°C during our visit, but the pool water was still glacially cold. Maybe nothing could be done about that, but it was intense until we got used to it. And as another reviewer mentioned, the butter was too hard to spread on the waffles 😂.

The building is old, and the renovation looks at least 20 years back, but the King suite with Jacuzzi was fairly priced and well worth it. No bed bug surprises. Breakfast was adequate, and the front desk was friendly.

I usually don’t leave negative reviews, but I’d avoid this place. There was dirt on the light switches, hair in the shower, and streaks on the walls. The room was so dirty I’ve never felt that grimy in a hotel. I nearly left without writing this, then stopped for the complimentary breakfast before checkout and poured cereal. The skim milk had gone sour, and my first bite almost made me gag. Don’t stay here, even as a last option.

For the price, it wasn’t terrible. The beds were clean and had zippered covers, the staff were friendly and helpful, and it’s pet-friendly, which is nice. Breakfast seemed fine, but as someone who is gluten conscious, I found almost nothing I could eat: toast, waffles, cereal, muffins, and no protein. The floors were very dirty. A few minutes walking in socks left them dark brown. The bathroom door wouldn’t latch, and the oval toilet seat didn’t fit the round toilet.
