Kelowna Good Night Inn

The room felt unsafe because the door was broken, had no deadbolt, and didn’t lock properly. Before we’d even woken up, a cleaning lady came in without warning, despite our having an hour and a half before checkout. The air conditioning was broken, outlets had no covers, furniture had cigarette burns, and the room smelled musty and smoky despite being non-smoking. There were also hairs in the sink, toilet, and bathtub, dirty sheets and towels, bugs smeared on the walls, and a cigarette butt on the luggage holder. We killed bugs crawling on the floor and walls several times. At check-in, the man at the desk, Gill, said we had no reservation even though I showed him my Expedia itinerary and paid receipt. He argued and told me to call Expedia. He said that even if Expedia confirmed the booking, he wouldn’t let us stay. He seemed particularly upset that the reservation had been made before the hotel was bought out, when it was a Howard Johnson. I called this awful customer service. He yelled at me, then only agreed to honor the booking after Expedia had been on the phone with him for 20 minutes. The bathroom doorknob was missing, leaving only a metal piece that sometimes worked. My fiancé and I were each locked inside on several occasions. At checkout, staff wanted to walk around our room and tried to accuse us of breaking the handle. I showed the front desk woman timestamped photos from when we first entered, and she acknowledged the damage was already there. For a second key, they charge extra. The man at the desk also tried to get the group ahead of us to pay cash, apparently to pocket the money, and didn’t provide paperwork. That’s what happened to them. This was so disturbing that we considered sleeping in our car rather than staying another night. Avoid this hotel at all costs.
