The price was the best we found in the neighbourhood, and there were plenty of places to eat with a large group within walking distance. The Kabob place across the street was amazing. Staff were friendly and knew how to handle a big group, and check-in took about two minutes. Our room was spacious and super clean, with comfortable beds, though the decor felt a bit dated and the water pressure was weak. Breakfast was free, there was a pool, and the parking lot was huge. I’m not sure how it could fill up, unless people missed the extra lot on the other side of the building. For a tournament, I think it was perfect.

We’d stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Laval for years because it was close to family and had always been quiet and predictable. That changed on this visit. We knew renovations were happening, but nobody mentioned that crews would be jackhammering and breaking concrete right below our room. The noise was continuous and jarring, and it seemed to come through the floor. My spouse and I were stressed, and our dog reacted to every impact with acute anxiety, as if it were a threat. Jackhammers generally run around 100-110 decibels, while sustained exposure at 85 decibels or higher is widely recognized as a level where hearing damage can begin. This was industrial noise, not a minor disturbance. I understand renovations, but guests need to know how intense and disruptive they’ll be. If we’d known concrete was being broken under occupied rooms, we would have rescheduled. Instead, we had to endure it. After years of choosing this hotel for convenience and out of loyalty, I won’t come back. The problem was that we weren’t given enough information to decide whether to stay.

The breakfast had a wide selection and was really good, and I felt the car was safe in the lot. It was full at night, but I still found a spot. My room was clean and comfortable, and the newly renovated lobby looks fresh and modern. Check-in with George was straightforward, and he was helpful. I’ve read some negative reviews, but it seems issues may come up when extra verification is needed. The main drawback was the dated room compared with the lobby. The shower needs attention: the water pressure was so weak it felt like a drip. Staff were friendly, and overall I had a solid stay. A refresh of the rooms would improve it.

The luggage carts were so heavy and difficult to steer that using one took real effort. It would be especially hard for most guests, including women, to push one without help. We also asked for an extra towel, but it never came. The hotel feels old and worn, with outdated furniture, carpets, and walls that need a deep clean and renovation. Our sink and toilet drained very slowly, and the room lighting was poor; one lamp didn’t work. Breakfast came with the stay, but the food was bland and the dining area looked tired and not very clean. I know this isn’t a luxury hotel, but even a budget place should be clean, comfortable, and maintained. More attention to cleaning, repairs, and guest convenience would make it much better.

The one positive was that the place was clean, and there were no bed bugs. Otherwise, I don’t recommend staying here unless you’re fine being woken by jackhammers at 7am every day. The building was being renovated, but they didn’t tell us until we arrived. They said to let them know if it was a problem and they’d switch our room, then claimed every room was full when I asked, even though there weren’t even 10 cars in the lot. The noise was so loud I couldn’t sleep or relax, and I couldn’t hear someone on my phone without leaving the entire building to make a call. The jackhammering stopped at noon, and I don’t understand why they didn’t schedule quiet work in the morning and hammer at 10 or 11 instead of giving guests such a miserable stay. I’m done with these hotels. I just don’t like the lies. There are lots of other hotels with better service, and it can’t be worse. The management here was horrible. I wish I could give zero stars.
