Guest House on the Mount

We chose this hotel because it’s conveniently close to London University Hospital, where my father was having surgery. Just before bed I spotted a dead Stink Bug beside my pillow. I waited until checkout to tell them so I wouldn’t upset him the night before surgery. The front desk and housekeeper apologized and mentioned a discount on a future stay. The rest of the room looked fine and I saw no other bugs, so hopefully they’ll check rooms more carefully before guests arrive. Accidents happen, and the location is handy enough that I’d keep it in mind if we return.

We spent the night in an extremely cold room because the heat wasn’t working. When we called reception to report it and ask if someone could take a look, they simply said nobody could come. In cold weather, heat is a basic need, and as paying guests we expected some concern or help. There was no fix, alternative, or effort to assist, and sleeping there was very uncomfortable. The staff’s response left us with a very disappointing impression.

This felt more like a hostel where you crash for the night than a 3 star hotel. The shared bathrooms don’t seem to qualify it for three stars, and ours looked like a hospital bathroom. The room had that hospital or retirement-home feel too, with different bedding and bed. I wouldn’t walk on the floor without shoes. We found a pubic hair by the toilet in our half bath when we checked in, though my expectations were already low. My boyfriend booked it. There was only a bar of soap, no other toiletries, and no housekeeping, so I don’t get the Google rating.

Stayed for two nights. It was fine, had what I needed, and I’ve got no complaints.
