Ramada by Wyndham Laval

Wendy at the front desk is such a sweetheart. She’s always smiling and professional, and her warm presence really helps guests feel comfortable. My experience with the younger receptionist was quite different. When I asked a question, she seemed rushed and not very polite. Her replies felt abrupt, and she turned away quickly with little eye contact. When I couldn’t find what I’d asked for, I felt nervous about asking again. A little more courtesy and engagement would make the guest experience better.

The garage below the older building of the Ramada has been extremely noisy with cars revving since 9:00 a.m. this morning, and it woke me up. I planned to show a short video of my room to explain the problem. While talking to the male receptionist, I used a swear word out of frustration, but it wasn’t directed at him. He told me I didn’t need to swear and that he didn’t need to see the video, as though I’d insulted him. I found that rude and unprofessional. I was already dealing with a lot of noise, and that’s not an appropriate way to speak to a guest who’s simply frustrated about being woken early. The noise and poor customer service together were disappointing.

Room #208 had a useful second door straight to the parking lot, which made carrying things to and from the car easy. Check-in was quick, and the front desk staff were friendly. But that parking lot door wouldn’t lock. The key card mechanism seemed broken, and there was no deadbolt or other way to secure it, so anyone could have entered. Cleanliness was also a problem. Dust and dirt had built up in corners, along baseboards, and in other small spots, and there were pubic hairs on the toilet. The bed seemed fresh and relatively clean, at least. We were only there for one night and didn’t make a big issue of it, but there’s definitely room for improvement.

The room was in terrible shape. The blinds fell off when I tried to close them, and a broken door seal made a loud whistling sound all night. Several light fixtures had burnt-out bulbs, the floors were sticky, and the TV remote didn’t work. The bed sat on a makeshift wood 2x4 frame, and the pillows were tiny, more like couch cushions. I paid through Expedia, but when I gave them my credit card for the room deposit, they charged me for the room again. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
