The pontoon tour was the highlight for us. Chester knew so much and was such a lively guide. We also loved seeing the farm animals and how well kept the grounds are. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and beautifully decorated, and the restaurant had tasty choices, great service, and an exemplary breakfast buffet. Everyone we met looked after us so well. They’re worth their weight in gold, and we can’t wait to come back.

The warm pool kept the kids happy, and there was plenty to see around the property. We came for the end-of-season holiday weekend package with Sherbrooke Village, and the staff were lovely with the kids. The views from both the rooms and restaurant are beautiful, and this place is a great spot to unplug. Some things could use attention: the trails were overgrown, the swinging bridge was still closed, and the petting zoo felt small for the number of animals in the cages. Pool towels were piled up, the pool needed scrubbing, and there were no pool tools left out. Housekeeping was also limited at the end of the season. It’s unfortunate the government hasn’t done more to support this Nova Scotian hospitality gem. We’d like to return during regular season and see the activities.

Seeing the animals on site was such a nice extra for my wife. From the balconies of the riverside rooms, and around the property, the views are hard to beat. We’d been meaning to stay here for ages since we travel around Nova Scotia often, and the resort lived up to it. You can tell a lot of work has gone into it in recent years, though there’s still more to come. The restaurant was excellent, with delicious food and great service. My wife has celiac disease, and they were very accommodating: the fall menu had lots of choices, and they even put together a custom meal from several dishes to fit her allergy and preferences.

The wedding meal was delicious, and the breakfast buffet was incredible too, though pricey. We went for a wedding, and even with the long drive from the city, the riverfront property made it worthwhile. There’s a lot for families to do, including trails around the lodge, tennis and basketball courts, a petting zoo, an indoor pool, and a sauna. You can also take boat tours or use the paddle boards and canoes. I wish we’d stayed the whole weekend, since I hadn’t realized how much the lodge offers. There’s no cell service, only wifi, which I personally considered a bonus. I hope to return for a family getaway.

The waterway, otters, and birds were visible from my patio, and I was lucky enough to catch the fall colours at their peak. It’s a lovely place all round. The setting is beautiful, the staff were friendly, my room was clean, and the food was good.
