We chose to stay the night instead of driving back to Sydney and over the Cabot Trail, after a French guide at The Fortress of Lewisburg recommended this wonderful hotel. It was well worth it. My wife has followed the owners' TV shows for years, and they were very kind when she told them her great-grandfather brought her family from Scotland. We had a sea-view suite, and the only thing we'd suggest is adding more bathroom shelves. The day was foggy, so we waited for the sun to clear the mist before taking in the spectacular view, including two seals playing at the water's edge. Dinner at The Brothy was especially good. Try the halibit or French beef stew. We may have had a few cocktails too. There seemed to be a small office party in the restaurant, but the service was excellent, and a lovely woman sang while a lovely man played guitar and piano. A night to remember, and our best evening in coastal Canada so far.

We came across this little seaside hotel by chance, and it turned out to be something special. My brother and I stayed the first night. I couldn't make the gala because I'd broken my foot, but the team looked after me well. Justin and Collin have created a beautiful hotel and restaurant, and it was great to meet them after watching their show on HGTV. Their effort in this coastal community is lovely to see. Justin sang with the woman pianist, and dinner was great. I had the halibit filet, moist and tasty, while my wife ordered the vegetable stew with the funny name, Hoge Poge. My only suggestion is to offer draft beer alongside the cans and bottles. Otherwise, a perfect dinner, ten out of ten!

We had such a good one-night stay at North Star Beach Suites, and only wished we could have stayed longer. The rooms had thoughtful extras like cups, glasses, and a wine crank, which we appreciated. For a quieter, darker sleep, light- or sound-sensitive travelers might want to ask for a second-floor room facing the ocean. You get lovely coastal views in the morning too. The décor is stylish but still warm and homey, and it was easy to relax after exploring. Dinner at The Bothy Restaurant was a highlight. We liked the house wines, the creative, well-balanced cocktails, and the menu had so many appealing choices. Live music and warm, attentive, genuine service made the evening memorable. Breakfast the next morning was just as impressive, a lovely start before heading out. The location works well for exploring, with a 5-10 minute drive to both the Fortress of Louisbourg and Louisbourg Lighthouse. The gift shop has lots of cute things to bring home. We'd gladly return to Cape Breton.

The restaurant is small, but the food is top quality and locally sourced whenever possible. I recommend the lobster roll and blueberry salad. The rooms were fairly clean, bright, and very quiet, with friendly people around. There's a full, good-sized bathroom and a tub with a shower. A lovely stay with a Scandinavian coastal feel, close to the Historic Louisbourg site.

The Bothy food was great, and the woman singing while playing piano was so talented, with a big range. Our room was spotless, the bed comfy, and the sea view lovely. I'd have liked more shelves in the bathroom, but it was otherwise a ten-out-of-ten stay. Best hotel experience I can remember. Wish we'd stayed a second night.
