Motel Fleur De Lys

I won’t be returning or recommending this place. The rooms were clean enough, but the mattresses were uncomfortable and the pillows thin and lumpy. I tossed and turned all night. There’s a coffee machine in the room, which sounds nice until you find there are no complimentary pods. You have to buy them at the check-in counter, and it only opens at 8 a.m. For what I paid, I expected better, even knowing this is a two-star hotel.

The rooms are small, cute, and comfortable, and it’s a good area for walking or biking since it’s off the main highway. There’s a private beach, a decent walk away, and swimming there was good. The place is comfortable and inexpensive, though a little run down. There was no coffee in the room, and apparently it costs extra. I also had to ask for soap and shampoo, though maybe that was just an oversight. There wasn’t English, so you need to do your best in French.

The view of the Fleuve from the hotel was spectacular, but I wouldn’t stay here again. It was clean, but very noisy. We could hear the people next door sneeze. The place needs a major facelift, especially the bathroom, and the front door handle was completely loose. Weeds covered the brick sidewalks around it. Half a star overall. Extremely overpriced for what we got. Too bad.

The location was great and we could walk everywhere, but that was the only upside. At $150 a night, this place was maybe worth $60 at most. It’s very old and poorly maintained, and I don’t recommend it. The room smelled bad and wasn’t clean. The bathroom smelled worse than a public bathroom. Some lights didn’t work, there was no outlet available in the bedroom, and there were no closets. The fridge was barely cold and kept making loud noises on and off, so it was hard to relax or sleep. There was only one small garbage bin in the bathroom and none in the bedroom. The wifi didn’t work in the rooms, only a weak signal outside in the parking lot. Breakfast wasn’t included, despite what Google listed. It was available for a fee, but we didn’t try it. The doorknob was difficult to lock. We had to lock it from inside before closing the door, and the key wouldn’t lock it. Soap and toiletries weren’t replenished daily. After we used up the small bar of soap on the first day, we asked for another the next day. The concierge rudely refused, saying we were lucky to get soap on the first day and that it was a welcome gesture. When we explained we really needed soap, he still wouldn’t help. The concierge was generally unhelpful and had bad manners.
