The Medicine Hat Villa

Staff were helpful and friendly, and the room was clean with comfortable beds. Still, after choosing this place based on its Trip Advisor rating, our stay didn't come close to that standard. The keys are old-fashioned metal keys, and the door won't lock itself unless you check it. Our TV didn't work until halfway through the stay: it was unplugged at the back and then needed some kind of system update. The comforter was very light, and the linens, towels, and facecloths could use an update. The breakfast was barely continental. There was waffle batter for the maker, but only syrup to go with it, or toast and peanut butter. I didn't see cereal, and there wasn't any fruit. Parking behind the building was good, but the back entrance with the old-style key was slippery; they need a mat there to help keep people from falling. I wouldn't choose to stay again. I'd rate it a 7 at best.

The outside doesn't give you the full picture, since the inside has been renovated. Our room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the staff were lovely. I arrived late, and the night attendant was especially helpful and friendly. The parking lot is locked, which is a nice feature. I also met the owner at checkout, and she was very pleasant. I'd definitely stay again.

Medicine Hat Villa was a comfortable, dependable place to stay, and I'd recommend it. The rooms were spacious, very clean, and well maintained. Service stayed good throughout, with friendly, attentive staff.

For a stopover downtown, this is a good budget choice, with a functional room in a nice part of the city for a fraction of the price. The rooms are clean and maintained. There's also a large, attractive shared area with a TV, computer, kitchen access, tables, games, and a library. Some furniture has chips and bathroom fixtures have rust, but those are minor cosmetic flaws. The staff weren't the friendliest I've met, though everyone did their job diligently.
