Sun Dek Motel

They keep calling me, even though I have nothing to do with this business, don't live in Medicine Hat, and have never stayed at a motel there. I wouldn't stay at this seedy looking place either. I used to ignore the calls, assuming they'd leave a message if it mattered, but I answered today since I was free. I said hello and they hung up right away.

The prices were right, and I felt safe there, including with my belongings. What stands out is how people around the place look out for your stuff. It feels like a really great community, especially compared with the awful motels nearby. The staff were amazing too. I travel to 40 cities a year, and this one's on my good list. You can feel safe staying here.

Most people there are friendly, and I've had some good times at this place. But in the summer, they kicked me out halfway through the month, even though I'd paid for the full month, and kept some of that money. They didn't give me a reason, just told me I had an hour to clean before evicting me, and returned only 50 dollars from my deposit. If they hadn't thrown me out like trash, I wouldn't have been homeless for as long this year (2025).

We needed somewhere safe and affordable for my fiance and child while we waited about 7weeks for our house to be ready. We drove 5h to move here, and I had to be at work first thing, so we stayed one night out of necessity and left as fast as we could. I called ahead to report everything and asked for some compminstation, but got nothing. Don't trust the online photos. They're over 9 years old, and it looked like there'd been no maintenance in well over 30 years. There was mold, cockroaches, mice and mouse shit, plus shit stained sheets and stained towels. The top-floor railing was unsafe and unstable. We couldn't use the microwave and a/c at once without blowing the braker. The fire alarm went off after I showered, and the windows and doors were broken. Absolutely disgusting. AVOID AT ALL COSTS, they don't care about anyone's safety or wellbeing.
