I stayed at Hotel Dorion at the end of September. It was my second stay. I’d had a great experience before, so this time’s difference shocked me. The room looked tidy but was very unclean, especially the bathroom. A greasy film covered the floor, and the metal bed frame was broken. I kept having to push it back into place so the mattress wouldn’t tilt. Worst of all, small worm-like larvae, maybe maggots, kept crawling up from the sink and shower drains. I first thought they were dirt and wiped them away, but they kept coming back all weekend. It made me think the plumbing might be infested. I didn’t want to leave a public review that could hurt the hotel, since I’d had a great stay before and the staff had always been friendly and helpful. But I tried reaching them through three separate contacts and heard nothing back for a month. I don’t usually leave reviews unless they’re positive, but this stay was particularly bad. Given how friendly the staff had always been, I was surprised not to hear from them.

I arrived to red ants, filthy floors, filthy coffee makers, and a bed covered in grime and bugs, possibly bed bugs. There were condoms under the furniture and stained bedding. You could hear people breathing in other rooms. The strip club downstairs pounded with bass, enough to make a cup of water on the desk shake. Street noise and smells came in too, including cigarettes and the smell of drugs. I got blankets from my car to sleep on the bed, but I didn’t sleep. I was itching, and it was the noisiest experience ever. As soon as I arrived, I contacted the booking platform and sent photos and video evidence. They reached out to the hotel, but the hotel did nothing and then lied, claiming they’d moved me to another room. They used that lie to deny compensation. This place is a disaster and should be shut down. I tried to avoid leaving this review, but further action will be taken.

I’ve stayed five times, and it’s always been great. My romantic stay in the jacuzzi room was lovely, the staff are really friendly, and the rooms are super comfy.

A clean, well-priced room in a convenient spot, and the staff were friendly. Just be careful not to accidentally lock yourself out on a balcony. If you’re after a five-star hotel experience, look elsewhere; if you want a nice place to stay without spending too much, this fits.

The room looked clean and presentable in the Airbnb listing, and we booked it because Montreal was so busy that weekend and there weren’t many options left. But the stay left us feeling unsafe, and we’d have given it zero stars if we could. The listing says the hotel is in the gay village, though it’s just outside the area. At night the neighborhood felt extremely sketchy, and as two women traveling alone, we did not feel safe. There’s also a loud, active bar above the hotel that blasted music and used a microphone all night. It drove us crazy. We arrived around 11:30 PM and waited nearly 20 minutes outside the front door to be buzzed in. After several attempts, we had to call the Airbnb host, who wasn’t on site and had to contact the staff member to find out what was happening. While we waited, two people who seemed sketchy came into the tiny entrance corridor and stood between my friend and me, trying to open the door. When we explained the delay, one of them stayed there instead of stepping out to let us in. After we were finally buzzed in, we hauled heavy luggage up stairs that smelled like urine into a very small lobby. Those two people had followed us in, and two more were behind them. My friend speaks French and talked with the concierge. When we spoke English, he loudly announced our floor, room number, and entry code in front of the four strangers. He then hurried us through an employee entrance to get us away from the two people who’d come in behind us. We were already worried, and hearing our room details called out like that made us even more frightened. The door had only a keypad deadbolt, with no other way to lock it from inside. There was also a large gap beneath it, enough for someone to push something through. The room looked fine and was relatively clean, though the bathroom was a little odd. Most of our concerns were about the area and the exposed door code. We left first thing the next morning. The woman at the desk was very lovely and understanding, refunded our security deposit, and apologized for the night staff. She wanted to help however she could.
