We were expecting a full kitchen, but got a kitchenette. Luckily, the burgers we brought for dinner didn’t need the oven. The frying pan looked dirty, though it was so burned and stained that it couldn’t really be cleaned. The sink leaked, with a big bowl already underneath to catch the drips, and there was no dish rack or tea towel, so we used a bathroom towel for the dishes. The guest BBQ was in a dark spot, which made it hard for my husband to tell when the burgers were done. He also found the BBQ utensils filthy and used the ones from the kitchen instead. The bathtub looked like it had been painted. We did get a friendly, quick check-in, and the room was fairly clean and functional. The bed was comfortable, and there’s a BBQ for guests. The inn is right across from a lovely harbour and is very handy for the ferry. We’d booked a sea-view room but didn’t get one. That wasn’t a big deal since we arrived shortly before sunset and wouldn’t have had time to enjoy it anyway. It was decent enough for one night, but my experience wouldn’t make me want to stay longer.

The staff handled a small concern quickly and came up with an easy fix, which made the stay feel stress-free. The place was clean, cozy, and comfortable, and I appreciated how well they looked after things. I’d happily come back.

We were happy with our stay and had everything we needed. The owners clearly put care into making the room as good as they could. It was clean, charming, and comfortable, with a lovely King bed, sofas, and bathrobes. My wife set up her office at the escritoire while I relaxed on the sofas. We stayed in the King's suite with the kitchenette and were pleasantly surprised by how nice it was. It’s not a luxury hotel, and the heating system is a bit old, but we’d definitely stay there again next time we’re in Nanaimo.

Daniel was so welcoming and friendly, and his kindness made the stay special. We’d booked a room with a king-size bed and a double sofa bed, but he kindly upgraded us to The Cottage at no extra charge. It was beautiful, clean, and comfortable, and really felt like a cozy home away from home. I’d definitely recommend the Buccaneer Inn to anyone visiting Nanaimo.

The room was unexpectedly clean and had plenty of useful things, including a hair dryer, kitchen utensils, salt and pepper, dish soap and a sponge. There were luggage racks and tea towels, too. The fridge had coffee creamer and ice trays, and my husband liked the coffee. Daniel was friendly and helpful at reception. He made an effort to chat when we checked in and was there again when we checked out. We had one double bed and one twin bed for three people. The inn was conveniently close to Cobs Bread, where hot bread came out periodically, a frozen seafood market that could serve fish and chips, and a marina right across the way. I’d stay here again when I’m back in Nanaimo.
