Sunrise Inn

We were desperate for a room and are lucky we needed it for only one night. The smell was putrid and lingering throughout the rooms, hitting us as soon as the door opened. The AC unit smelled even worse, old and moldy. The bathroom was nasty and unusable, with mold on the ceilings, toilet, and shower, plus mildew on the tub floor and curtain. We didn’t even want to turn on the sink in case the water vapor carried mold. The toilet paper seemed to be what the previous guests had left, and the towels were stained, hairy, and smelly. The beds were the nastiest I’ve ever seen, covered in mold of different colors, spills, and stains, and they stunk. My kids got itchy after sitting on the edges, so we didn’t sleep on them. There were exposed wires at the outlets, and the AC was coated in mold and dust. Its terrible smell stayed with us on the five-hour drive home. The carpets were filthy, with trash swept under the bed, and they stained the bottoms of our socks after we first entered. We had to wear sneakers in the room. We couldn’t sleep because of the disgust and fear, with people running around, screaming, banging doors, and blasting music all night. We wiped down the chairs before sitting and kept the door open to breathe a little easier. After an hour, my son complained of chest pain and lightheadedness, which I guessed might be from the smell and mold. After six hours there out of desperation, all five of my kids and I felt short of breath and a heavy feeling in our chests. When I returned the key, I spoke with the owners. He told me, “yeah, we just bought this property, what can you do? We are trying to fix it.” In my opinion, this place should close and get a health and safety inspection. The conditions were deplorable, like the hotels on Gordon Ramsey hotel hells. If I ever needed a room desperately again, I’d rather sleep on a cardboard box in a parking lot than set foot in this motel.

For a quick stay, the price felt fair, and the air cooling worked very well. The beds were clean, the towels were clean, and there were a microwave and fridge. The floors were a little dirty, so I’d bring slippers. The room smelled like someone had smoked in it, and there were stains on the wall. The Wi-Fi was really slow and the TV didn’t work, but for what I paid, those issues were acceptable.

I was nervous after reading motel reviews around this area, especially since I’d never left my city or stayed in a motel before. My experience was much better than those reviews made me expect. In the morning, staff greeted me and asked if I needed anything, and told me to just ask if I did. The room was clean, the bed was made, the sheets and towels were clean, and the floor wasn’t dirty. I couldn’t figure out the bedside lamp at all. I’d definitely come back and recommend it to others.

For the price, the place was decent. We stayed one night, and the room was clean and nice and cold. It looks like they’re doing some renovations, and there was a cleaning lady on site.
