Olds Pomeroy Inn And Suites

I’m disappointed. The staff talked me into a larger room I didn’t need, saying it was nice, but it wasn’t. Paying more than I needed to put a damper on what had otherwise been a wonderful weekend. I’d strongly suggest looking elsewhere for a place to stay in Olds.

We came for a hockey tournament the weekend of Dec 5th. The hotel looked clean and modern when we walked in, but the stay was a letdown after we checked in. My wife was quoted a much lower rate when booking, and no one mentioned there’d be some kind of Christmas party on Friday. We were on the third floor and could still hear music thumping into the early morning. It was far too loud, and with a 5:30am wake-up for our first game, we were exhausted. It took away from a busy weekend. I’d been told breakfast wouldn’t be available at 6am because on weekends it starts at 7am. They corrected that later, but the confusion was frustrating and didn’t leave us feeling good about the stay. I was also surprised there weren’t any water bottles or quick snacks to grab, since we’d had those at other places. And we had to remake the bed because the sheet was on top of the comforter. We have plenty more hockey and tournaments ahead, but I’m not sure we’ll book here again. Such a shame.

I’m at the Pomeroy every month, and the people and Milo make it a winning combination. Milo is my favourite front desk clerk, an icon for the guests who get up early at the Olds Pomeroy. He and his owner keep things going overnight, then Milo gets a well-earned rest in the morning. This month’s visit was very good too: spacious rooms, a fridge and coffee in the room, a great breakfast, and fantastic service.

The hotel is beautiful, the beds are comfortable, and breakfast was good. One thing, though: the carpet looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed in ages. Did the room cleaners’ vacuum break?
