Siesta Motel

I booked three nights after reading the Google reviews, hoping for some kitchen facilities because I had my dog and a large cooler with me. Instead, I was put upstairs, which was inconvenient. The kitchen setup was just one burner, a standard microwave, and a small fridge, and there was a very disgusting sponge for the dishes. There was nowhere to hang anything, no hangers or hooks, so I ended up using the curtain rod for my coat. The bathroom tiles and ceiling had significant mold, and the tub tap was broken. I couldn’t find a smoke alarm in the unit, though there was a bracket on the ceiling. There was no hair dryer, iron, or ironing board either. I would never recommend this place.

Our family had a sentimental reason for choosing Siesta Motel in Olds, Alberta, since our great-grandparents built it. The staff sounded very nice on the phone, but things went badly as soon as we arrived. We always check the beds for bed bugs, and found a large bug under the sheets. The owner came down when we called, but had a bad attitude and insisted it wasn't a bed bug. He said it would be fine and we should sleep on it. I didn't want to sleep in a bed with bugs. We asked to switch rooms or get a refund so we could stay somewhere else, but he refused both and became hostile, saying he couldn't justify either option. We'd just finished a 16 hour drive and were exhausted, so we didn't want a fight. We left without a refund. It was deeply disappointing, especially with our family's connection to the motel. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

At 3:30am, after my car broke down and I’d spent over five hours waiting for a tow truck, the company told me they could no longer take me home. John at Siesta kindly offered me a room and made space for my two dogs. He was understanding and so kind to them and to me. The rate was outstanding, under $100 with taxes and pet fees included. The room was quiet and very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the air conditioning was effective and almost silent. John also provided the emergency amenities I needed. There’s plenty of easy to access parking and lots of green space for the dogs, too. Definitely a pet friendly hotel, and I’d highly recommend supporting this small family owned business.
