The room was roomy and clean, and the breakfast was nice. Both were better than what I’ve had at places where I paid more. The pool was clean too, though its liner is discoloured and some deck tiles could use replacing. The building feels run-down and the elevator wasn’t working. Staff were friendly and helpful.

We came back from dinner to find the lights out, and ended up in a cold, dark room with our children. There was no update about the outage or the extra bed I’d asked about. We’d left the bed in the first room, and when I asked the front desk what to do, she said she’d bring another one over, but it never arrived. I can imagine the outage made that difficult, but nobody let us know what was happening. The front desk woman was nice, though she was on the phone whenever I came down, so I’d wait at least ten minutes to speak with her. She did kindly switch us from the first room because its toilet wouldn’t flush. In the second room, the TV didn’t work.

The rooms were adequate and the stay worked for what we needed, once we finally got checked in. Our two rooms weren’t ready when we arrived after 3 pm, the hotel’s stated check-in time. The pre-registration text asked me to choose an arrival time, and I picked 3 pm, so I expected the rooms to be ready then. Shouldn’t they be ready by the standard check-in time anyway? The message also said pre-registering meant we’d only need to pick up our keys, and had us send a photo of my ID. That didn’t seem to be how things worked, or the staff didn’t know about it. Some training there might help. The young man who checked us in was very unhelpful. His answer to my questions, and to the next three customers he spoke with, was just “I don’t know,” with no offer to find out. He seemed unsure how the system worked, what texts it sends, whether the restaurant offers room service, or how someone applies for a job at the hotel. I know it was nearly the end of his shift, but customer service is his job, and the lack of problem-solving made an already frustrating situation worse. The young lady who took over afterward was kind and helpful, and really saved the experience. I wish I’d gotten her name.

The room was clean, but the tap dripped all night and the laminate floor was loose and raised a little. It squeaked and felt uncomfortable to walk on. The young woman at the desk was extremely helpful. I noticed her mopping the foyer too, which I suspect was beyond her usual duties. With the weather this time of year, that must be a tough job, and I appreciated it.

The clean room, great breakfast, and friendly staff made for a nice stay. It was easy to find the hotel, and I’m glad they accept dogs. They did tell us after booking that the elevator was broken. We’ll definitely come back next time we’re in the area.
