Value Inn Ottawa

Francis and Eric were polite, thorough at check-in, and the internet was strong. It was quiet at night, and I saw no sign of bed bugs or other bugs. The newly renovated room felt like a studio apartment, with a full-size fridge, induction hot plate, air fryer, microwave, toaster, and kettle. Towels and face cloths may be something you need to bring yourself, and they clean the room and change sheets once a week. That's about what I'd expect in the post-COVID era, and it does feel more like an apartment than a motel. I've stayed in motels from coast to coast for work, and I'd choose this kind of room over a room at an Eddie Motel chain. It's a good option for someone working on the road who wants reasonable accommodations at a reasonable price. I give it five stars. The Travelodge nearby charged $180 a night and was drastically overpriced, with no service at all. A lot of the bad reviews here seem to be from three, four, or five years ago.

We only got two towels for three people, and they had what looked like mold spots from being put away wet. The tub was stained, so we didn't want to shower in it. Wallpaper was peeling, and the comforter on one bed had cigarette burns and brown stains on the inside. I won't come back or recommend Value Inn.

I don't usually leave reviews, but this whole experience was ridiculous. The room smelled, the hot water in the shower was inconsistent, and on one day the cleaning was incomplete, with a pool of water left in the bathroom. The room itself was subpar, though you get what you pay for. I went to check out at 8 in the morning and found the office didn't open until 9. Since I couldn't check out then, I didn't get a receipt. I needed one for expenses, but when I called later they couldn't email it and wanted to fax it. After I found a fax machine, they said they weren't sure they could even find the receipt. The hotel isn't as cheap as it may seem, and the hassle just isn't worth it.

We found bed bugs around 11 pm and had to leave the Value Inn. At the office, they acted like we were making it up, so we left a cup with four bed bugs there as we left the property. I called every day for almost a month asking for a refund, then they stopped answering. I still haven't received one. A great way to spend the night before open heart surgery.
