North Star Inn & Suites

We booked through Expedia for a double queen, non-smoking room listed at $99 a night, but checkout came to $225 with taxes. For rooms this worn and damaged, that’s a lot, especially when they look like $69 rooms. Check-in took 20 minutes after the host had to reset the point of sale, and then we were given a king smoking room. We have kids and allergies, so we asked for what we’d booked. They said everything else was sold out, but moved us into a two-double room taken from another reservation. I can see they’re working on improvements and looking after many regulars, but after feeling overcharged, lied to, and taken advantage of, we won’t come back.

We left and got a refund after seeing the room. The sheets had hair and stains, the mattress protector looked like it hadn’t been changed in over a year, and we spotted a bug, though we couldn’t tell if it was a bed bug. We weren’t taking chances, especially with a two-month-old infant with us. As soon as we entered, the room smelled like a musky bar full of smokers. Before that, the stairs to our top-floor room with a balcony felt so sketchy I thought they might fall apart, and we’d noticed broken tiles at check-in covered by a rug. We should have taken that as a warning and turned back sooner. Wouldn’t recommend this motel to anyone. We were disgusted.

The renovated rooms look great, and ours was well stocked with a comfy bed. I was traveling from up North to Vancouver for medical treatment, with a layover in PG on both legs of the trip. When a few complications came up, the staff were really accommodating and helped me out of a jam. I’d recommend this affordable place to travelers.

The room was cleaner and smelled nicer than I expected for the price, and the bedding was nice too. I’d been paying $170 a night in Vancouver for a much worse place, so checking in here was a relief. I asked for a pet-friendly room without cats because of my allergies, something I’ve struggled to arrange at other hotels. This time it went smoothly, thanks to the kind, helpful man at the front desk. I think his name was Praxil. I’ll definitely come again.
