Eagle Close Executive Bed Breakfast

We got in at 1 a.m. and someone was there to meet us, even though there isn’t a host on site. It’s a quiet place with large rooms, more like a deluxe hostel than the executive place the title suggests. The kitchen is roomy enough for lots of people to use at once, and the pantry is well stocked, with equipment that’s clearly been used plenty. You can help yourself to what you need to get the day started. The whole setup could use a refresh, though I expect that would mean higher prices. I’d stay again. I just need somewhere safe and quiet while continuing my trip, and being able to make coffee and breakfast my own way worked well for me.

The place is out by an industrial area at the edge of town, so you’ll need a car. Our room had dirty carpets and food stuck to the ceiling. We booked an en-suite but there was no bathroom in our room. No one was there, the phone went unanswered, and nobody returned my message. The other rooms looked okay, but I wouldn’t book the queen room.

Mrs. R was a gracious, welcoming host throughout my four-night stay. Huckleberry Cottage also has a wonderful property manager. It’s a good fit if you want a comfy bed and a quiet neighbourhood without a lot of frills.

After two days sleeping in my Jeep on the road, this place was a very welcome change. It was clean and welcoming, and there was wifi.
