The best part is how easy it is to walk to restaurants and views around Old Quebec. The room had traditional decor that first struck us as dated and a little creepy, but with time we noticed much of it had been updated to look old in keeping with the building. We had a good stay overall. Service was my main complaint. There’s no reception, just a phone number. They were helpful at first about parking, which we would have reserved in advance if we’d known, but they didn’t resolve the other issues. There was no hair dryer, which seems like a basic need in Canada in February. When I called, I got, “uhh I don’t think so.” The ductless system’s remote had no batteries either. The bed was listed as a queen, but it was definitely full size.

The location is the only reason we give this place two stars. It’s on the same street as the famous Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, and easy to get around on foot in good weather. In bad weather it’s less pleasant: the sidewalks get icy, though the roads are salted quickly. We tried the contactless hotel experience and won’t do it again. The daily automated texts felt impersonal and low effort when no one was on site to help or keep the sidewalks and parking lot safe. How many reviews will it take for the hotel to change? Lots of guests don’t like contactless service. We got an automated checkout text even though we’d told staff we were leaving a day early, and apparently there’s an online checkout procedure too. Hospitality here set a low bar. I wouldn’t return or recommend this or another contactless hotel. Check-in was a bad start. The hotel sent incorrect codes for both the building and our room. Between the two outside doors there’s a digital pad and an old-fashioned lockbox, but the instructions don’t say to enter the four-digit code on the digital pad. It would have helped if the code had worked. Another guest let us into the lobby, then we had to call the hotel from upstairs because our room code failed too. The winter parking lot fits five cars and wasn’t maintained at all. The ice was dangerously slippery and needed sand or salt. My husband fell on the way to the car. We asked the hotel to put something down, and they said they would, but two hours later they still hadn’t. Nobody was actually on site to make sure guests were safe. The spaces were so tight we had to crawl out through the trunk because we couldn’t open the side doors. Avoid spot 1 beside the trash bins: in winter there’s no room because it isn’t shoveled and the bins stick into the space. It might be fine in summer, but parking here in winter was terrible. At $28.74 per day including fees, it’s not worth it. A nearby garage is a better choice. Our room was a good size and had character that fit the period, inside and out, but preserving that character takes maintenance. In room 23, joint compound had been slapped over wall damage in three places without sanding, priming, or painting. There were water stains on the antique wooden furniture, and the trim needed repair. The owners should take pride in the building’s history and fix things properly.

The building is very old and has loads of character, and our room was great, with everything we needed. Remote check-in was easy and efficient. We had trouble finding the parking, but staff quickly sent directions and we found it without a problem. I really loved our stay and would definitely come back.

For a reasonably priced stay in the old city, the location was perfect. We found the room comfortable enough, with an authentic antique, Victorian feel. The shutters made it completely dark, and the in-room Nespresso coffee maker was a nice touch. There’s no refrigerator in the room, but there are ones in the hallways and a full-size one downstairs. The bed was reasonably comfortable. We were on the third floor, so we carried our bags up two flights. It wasn’t an issue for us, but there’s no elevator. Sound carries easily between rooms and floors in this older building. We heard every footstep overhead, including from neighbors who arrived at 12:30 at night on our third night and were up at 7. If you’re a light sleeper, I’d suggest a top-floor room, as long as the stairs work for you. There’s no staff on site, but check-in by text was easy and responses were quick. Make sure you have the right code. We couldn’t fit our car into the small parking space we’d reserved. Getting a refund was no problem, and we parked in a town garage instead. It was a little cheaper but less convenient. This is a perfectly fine, well-priced place to stay in the old city. Hotel ratings depend on what matters to you, so that’s our take after three nights.

We loved staying here and would come back. The room was spacious, and the bed and couch were very comfortable. The staff were lovely and so helpful, doing everything they could to make us happy. I’m glad we picked this hotel instead of the Frontenac. It’s one of the nicest places I’ve stayed.
