We paid $25 to reserve parking, but getting into the area was difficult and seemed unsafe for winter driving. You had to drive over the sidewalk, where ridges of ice nearly a foot high blocked both sides. In my small hatchback, I couldn’t get in without scraping the underside, and I briefly lost traction trying. We called to report it and were told someone would come fix it, but no one did. The parking area was basically solid ice too, and became extremely slippery when the temperature rose above zero the next day. There was no reception staff around. We only saw cleaning staff in the morning. At check-in, our room keypad didn’t work, so we had to call, and one of us went downstairs to collect a physical key instead of using the code we’d been given.

Manoir de la Tour’s location is convenient, but the stay was far worse than my previous visits to Old Quebec, where the rest of my trip was wonderful. For over $400, the hotel was nowhere near worth it. Our room was so small it barely fit a queen bed, and there was no usable floor space to open my luggage. The low, slanted ceiling made moving around difficult, and I hit my head several times getting up, reaching the window, and walking by the bed. Hygiene was also unacceptable. The room smelled strongly of aged urine from check-in, and the odor spread everywhere in the cramped space. A T-shirt I’d left by the closet absorbed it so badly I had to throw it away. There was visible mold and dust piled in several places, clearly not something that had accumulated in one day. The window was broken, had no screen, and the room had no proper ventilation. It had been left open before we arrived, so there were mosquitoes and other bugs throughout the room on our first night. When I asked the concierge to move us, I was told the hotel was fully booked. Staff poured bleach and powder into the toilet instead. That only covered the smell temporarily, and it returned within hours. Despite the convenient location, the cramped room, odor, mold, poor ventilation, and lack of cleaning made the stay extremely uncomfortable. Old Quebec is beautiful and has many excellent places to stay, but I wouldn’t recommend this one.

Apart from being close enough to walk to Old Quebec, this hotel fell short. I stayed for two nights in mid-September. The room felt extremely cramped, and the floors and bathroom weren’t properly maintained. There was no real front desk or staff presence, so checking in and getting help was frustrating. Sorry, I wouldn’t recommend it.

The hotel is central, quiet, and feels safe. It’s right by the Plains of Abraham, and I felt comfortable walking there at 10 p.m. Contactless check-in was fine with me. The room, however, had a strange damp smell that never went away. Staff suggested turning on the fan might clear it, but it didn’t. I couldn’t find the AC, and they promised to bring a portable unit, then never did during my two-day stay, despite apologizing. They didn’t check back, either. I eventually found the AC myself, though it barely worked. The musty odor triggered my allergies. I’d thought this problem might only affect basement rooms, but I was on the ground floor. The smell and the lack of follow-through would make me think twice about returning.

If you mainly want a convenient location and a basic stay, this place may work, but expect limited comfort and service. Everything is handled remotely since there’s no reception or front desk. The team is helpful by phone or message, though on-site support for quick questions or small problems would have been useful. It felt more like an Airbnb than a hotel. The neighborhood is quiet and seems safe, with most major attractions a 10 to 15 minute walk away. The rooms are spacious, but the rooms and bathrooms are quite dated, with unimpressive decor and very basic furnishings and amenities. Functionally, you get a bed, small table, and bathroom, with little else. There’s no bottled water, shampoo is limited, and there are few extra touches. The thin walls also let you hear people in nearby rooms clearly. Parking is limited and hard to secure, so it’s best to call when booking to try to reserve a space. It may not be available when you arrive.
