We booked through Expedia during the busy German Christmas Market period. The hotel was available and within our budget, though it wouldn't have been our first pick, and we ended up more than satisfied. It's a basic, budget-friendly place right in Old Quebec, just steps from the main attractions. We weren't expecting luxury, and didn't get it, but the rooms were clean and comfortable, just as we'd hoped. Communication before arrival was clear and prompt. Though we'd been told there'd be no housekeeping during our short visit, our rooms were cleaned every day. When one coffee maker stopped working, it was replaced the same day. Everyone on staff we met was pleasant, professional, and helpful. It's an older building, and some things could use repairs or updating. With fewer tourists and labor shortages, we could understand why that might be difficult right now. We were also told this hotel is a sister property to nearby Acadia, where we could ask for help if an issue came up. We'd stay again and recommend it.
The room was clean, though there was more fabreeze than I like. I'm sensitive to it. It was a tight fit for two, but you'll probably be out and about. Staff were friendly, and a tiny microwave would've been useful. We came around New Year's, so it cost a bit more than usual, but for the price the location can't be beat. They have parking at both hotels for about 25 cad a day. The owner also runs Hotel Acadia across the street, so you can go there if you run into a problem.
We won't be back. On Christmas Day, a staff member treated our family of four like children at a school camp. We were told to be silent and asleep within 15 minutes or the police would be called and we'd be kicked out. He'd accused us of making noise, even though we'd just come back from dinner and had only been in the room a few minutes. We didn't complain about the ongoing noise from guests above us. The same staff member knocked on our door, used inappropriate language, and threatened police involvement over a small Christmas tree in our room. The tree was in the bin before checkout. He made an alarming comment about us getting a criminal record that would follow us around the world. None of this was warranted, and we felt intimidated and demeaned. He also openly complained about Christmas and tourists visiting for the holiday season, which was deeply disappointing and completely overshadowed what should have been a special stay. This was our worst hotel experience.
The place was clean and comfortable, and I had a great stay overall. It's a good, affordable option in a quiet and secure setting. There was a small snag with the passcode, and another guest helped us get inside since the property had forgotten to email it to me. I also noticed the room window was open when I arrived, and the top window was broken. I let the property know right away.
There's no receptionist at the hotel. You have to call, and it's hard to reach anyone by phone. The Wi-Fi barely worked, and several things in my room needed repairs. It's also a very old building, and doors slamming outside the room woke me at night. Management seems to rely on tourists booking because of the location while doing as little as possible. I'd book somewhere else. Quebec is small, and you don't need to be right beside Old Town to enjoy it.
