After wandering around Cartier Avenue last Saturday, a few friends and I ducked into Café Krieghoff. The terrace was full of locals enjoying the afternoon sun, and it immediately felt relaxed and unhurried, like a neighborhood gem. I had the eggs Benedict, some of the best I've had, with perfectly poached eggs and a rich, buttery hollandaise I keep thinking about. The staff were warm and attentive without hovering. It has an easy charm that made us want another coffee and more time there.

The duck poutine and French onion soup were both great, but I especially loved the soup. Service was great, and the cafe had a cozy feel. The artwork for sale used as table toppers was cool, too.

I had the traditional poutine at Cafe Krieghoff and really enjoyed it. The cheese curds were real, and the demi-glace brown gravy was very tasty. Service was prompt without feeling rushed, and all the wait staff were friendly. Most spoke both English and French. It looks like a great spot for breakfast, brunch, or lunch.

The host was very kind and helpful, and let us leave our bags when we arrived before check-in. The room was very clean, though it felt too dim, and I had to use the decorative lamps for enough light. It's a bit of a walk to the Old Town but still walkable, and easy to get to by car or taxi. There are plenty of restaurants nearby. I wouldn't suggest it for elderly guests or anyone with mobility issues because the staircase to the second floor is long and steep. In winter, snow could make it slippery and dangerous. It's good value for money, and I'd recommend it.
