Days Inn by Wyndham Redwater

The rooms are really nice, the staff are great, and the prices are very good. I’d call it the best hotel in redwater. My one complaint is the parking lot, which was like a skating rink. I don’t know whether they’ve ever heard of salting or spreading gravel, but it feels like a lawsuit waiting to happen. It’s not suitable for elderly people or anyone with disabilities.

I’ve been staying here for a couple of weeks, and the parking has been dangerously slippery before because nothing is done to improve it. This time there was about three feet of snow, with three vehicles stuck at the entrance. When I asked about plowing, the woman at the desk said it would be done snowing that night and they might get someone to plow the next day. Everyone checking in had to carry their belongings through the snow, with no clear path to the door. The accommodations themselves were fine.

The staff were very friendly, and the hotel was quiet. The hallways were extremely dark, though, and there was a strange smell throughout the place. My room was clean, but it could’ve been better: the microwave and the mirror in the bathroom had streaks. I also found a zip-lock bag in the bathroom with some kind of cloth inside. I wasn’t sure what it was, and wasn’t about to open it.

This place needs some care. There were gaps between the ceiling and the HVAC ductwork in the pool room, and hangers were missing from the fire suppression water lines. The fan in the women’s bathroom squealed the whole time we were at the pool. The hot tub was empty and the sauna was out of service. In our room, the reclining chair had no power because its cord was missing. The shower curtain had grease and oil stains, and there was only a quarter roll of toilet paper. I understand it’s mostly longer-term housing for people who work locally, more of a “home away from home” than a beautiful hotel. Still, I think they could do better for the residents. Most of this looks like general maintenance, and I’m sure one of the residents could be hired to fix it up.
