Ocean View Hotel

A small mix-up with our room availability came up, but the staff sorted it out, thanks! Our group got Screeched In during a kitchen party in the lounge, which made for a memorable experience. The cleaning staff were friendly and helpful, too. We left a few things behind when we departed, and the staff tracked us down to get them back to us. Thanks again.

The upstairs bistro has stunning ocean views, and we enjoyed a few meals there along with the sunsets. Our main-floor ocean-view room was clean, though a bit dated, and the beds were comfortable enough that we slept well after hiking. But privacy was a problem whenever the drapes were open. People walked right past the window, leaving bikes or parking cars outside, so we kept the curtains shut the whole stay. Not much of an ocean view that way. We were there for four nights during our trip to NL.

Our king room faced the garden, which meant a fenced lawn rather than the water or parking lot. It was a good-sized, spotless room, and the property was nicely maintained. The restaurant on site is handy given the limited options in town. The food was good, though service takes time with so many people visiting the area. It was mostly quiet; we could hear kids running out the door upstairs, but little else. There’s also a pub with a lively show, which didn’t disturb us.

We went for dinner and drinks last night, and felt pressured to pay $20.00 each for a kitchen party we hadn’t planned to attend. Our food arrived at 8:24 pm, just six minutes before the show started, and by 8:40 they were already hounding us about the charge even though we were still eating. I’d ordered half a liter of wine with dinner, and my friend had a rum and coke. This place felt like a money-grabbing pit. If you’re visiting from outside the province, I’d look elsewhere for food or accommodation. It was embarrassing to see a business in this beautiful province act so greedy.
