Hôtel Chicoutimi

The condos are comfortable, and the spot has a great view. There's a beautiful beach on the lakefront, with a jacuzzi and sauna for hot days, plus an indoor pool and jacuzzi for colder days. It's family friendly, close to bike paths, and there's lots to do nearby. The only downside is that kitchen basics and other condo equipment are a bit lacking, which can make cooking challenging, though it's nothing too drastic. Strongly recommend.

We had two rooms, one in the newer hotel wing and one at the back in the old building. The older room had a charming, authentic feel and wooden floors, but its bathroom reeked of urine. The air conditioning was weak and noisy. We were there in august, when the days were warm, and had to choose between leaving the curtain open and letting in morning light while the AC struggled to cool the room, or dealing with the heat. You're better off in the newer rooms, or avoid the old one. The hotel wouldn't move us, so the stay ended up quite unpleasant.

We stayed the night of May 9-May 10. The hotel had recently been renovated, and I was glad the room was clean. The front desk service was excellent, and the place is close to everything. I had my dog with me, and pets are welcome, though they charge $40/ night for animals.

We arrived at 4am and were assigned a room, but when we unlocked the door, someone was asleep in the bed. It was obviously booked, and the situation was so embarrassing. We got another room, whose door was already unlocked. Exhausted, we just needed rest. Later, after getting up to drive around the city, we came back and found bugs all over the bed. I reported it at the front desk. The man said there was another room if I wanted to move. I told him that wasn't acceptable, that we were packing up and leaving. When I asked for a refund, he said there was nothing he could do and I had to contact the booking department. I've tried everything and haven't heard back from anyone. I would never recommend HOTEL CHICOUTIMI. The service and accommodation were terrible, and it felt like they just wanted our money. We'll never go back.
