The guide was a lot of fun to listen to, even without speaking French, and booking the tour was easy. But with about 40 other tourists there, it felt crowded, and the high price didn't seem like good value. We didn't stay at the lodge, only took the bear observation tour. The bears live in the wild but are semi-domesticated, since the guide leaves food regularly and they reliably come to the viewpoint. The observation itself is from a viewing spot, rather than going out and looking for bears.

We watched quietly from a wooden cabin as beautiful black bears moved freely in their natural habitat, sometimes less than a meter away. The setup meant we humans were the ones inside a container, not the bears. Éric knows bears and their ecosystem inside out, and his scientific insights come with a clear respect for wildlife. With a lifelong love of nature and over 30 years guiding bear observations, he's kind, passionate, and a mine of knowledge. His base is in La Mauricie National Park, where the close-up experience felt fully immersed in nature while still respecting the bears' freedom and natural behaviors. He also offers a lovely chalet in the heart of nature, a stone's throw from Shawinigan, with birdsong and wolves howling in the quiet at night. An absolute recommendation for anyone who loves authentic nature experiences. Meet Éric, Quebec's Bear Whisperer 🐻 🇨🇦

We were lucky enough to see a mother bear with her two cubs. Eric was keen to share what he knows, and the black bear experience was great. The accommodation was very comfortable, and you can gather fresh eggs for breakfast in the morning. It's very close to Mauricie National Park.

Eric was very nice, and the place sits right across from the river. You can go out with him to see black bears and moose. Looking for moose by canoe in mauricie national park at sunrise is a must, and sitting just 4 meters from a black bear is astonishing.

For the price, even if you're on a budget, the stay and bear excursion were amazing. We rarely get this level of service at that cost.
