The view was beautiful, and the fire was always going, which I loved. Our room had a cozy feel somewhere between a medieval place and a cabin. Breakfast was delicious, though it’s a set menu, so let them know when you book if you have strict dietary restrictions. We paid $250 a night and thought the experience was lovely for that price. A little tea in the common area would’ve been a nice touch.

It felt like a fairy tale, and all the little details were just perfect. I’m so impressed. Thank you, Mr. Richard, for being so hospitable and for giving me the chance to have this wonderful adventure. I’ll definitely come back and recommend it to all my friends.

The view of Mount Saint Sauveur is lovely, and there are nice walks nearby, though you need to drive into town. This is a very nice place overall, with warm, respectful, welcoming service. The furniture, artwork, linens, and general feel suit the renovated 1932 former monastery. The rooms are nicely appointed, though at this price I’d have preferred a proper duvet. At $279 plus tax a night, I expected more small touches to make me want to return regularly. There should be a low-cost drink and snack area with soda, bottled water, hot water and tea bags, juice, and maybe cookies or tea biscuits. A couple of water bottles in each room would help too. Chocolate on the pillows would be a fitting little extra. There’s art and antiques to look at and a quasi-library area for reading, but not much else to do. Many good B&Bs also have board games like backgammon, chess, checkers, and Pictionary, along with magazines. The TV lists lots of channels that don’t get a station. If possible, it would save time to show only the channels included in the package. I was also surprised there weren’t modern alarm clocks with phone plug-ins that could work as speakers. The bathroom supplies were disappointing for the level this place seems to aim for. There were no soaps, shampoo, conditioner, shower cap, or similar amenities, just several partly used shampoo and conditioner bottles around the tub. The sink soap pump was strawberry coconut, and while its plastic bottle looked nice, it seemed like a dollar-store product and out of place. At this price, details like this matter. Breakfast was nice, but also a sticking point. There was no choice, only a set menu: lemon cake that tasted good but was dry, assorted muffins, chilled fruit purée, and a crepe-pancake hybrid filled with caramelized apple and served with fresh fruit. It looked appealing and everything was tasty and good quality, but it was heavy on fruit sugar and starch. I’ve been off carbs and was forced to eat this. There were no stated alternatives. I’d have preferred eggs, sausage or bacon, rustic bread and spreads, or hot or cold cereal. A small orange juice was on the table, and the coffee was offered; both were good. There’s clearly been lots of thought put into the design and even the table settings, but other areas are seriously lacking. We were required to remove our shoes and wear the provided slippers, which itself wasn’t a problem. The slippers, as the photos show, had been worn by others and some were tattered. Guests should be given new, individually wrapped slippers on arrival. With tax, the rate was over $330 a night, and at that price there are many other places I could try. The Saint Sauveur market may have limited competition, but I can also choose from across the Laurentian mountains and the Eastern Townships, so this doesn’t make me want to return.

Richard is a terrific host, and his care with the food, the way he speaks with guests, and all the little details show real hospitality experience. Breakfast was spectacular, served with the kind of presentation you’d expect in a palace. The place itself is a peaceful, secluded hidden gem with great views, yet it’s very close to town. Its characterful atmosphere feels like stepping back in time. I’d definitely recommend it.

Richard was such a welcoming, genuinely kind host, and the breakfast was included, delicious, and beautifully prepared. The house has a lot of charm, with unusual, interesting décor. It’s in a quiet spot with spectacular views. We had a wonderful stay at Le Petit Clocher B&B and would highly recommend it.
