Best Western Plus Guildwood Inn

The lobby gives a very different impression from the rooms. Once I got into the hall, it felt like stepping back into the '80s. The bathroom tiles and toilet seat were stained yellow. This place definitely needs renovating.

The room had a bad smell as soon as I walked in. In the bathroom, there was hair on the toilet and the tub was dirty and wouldn't drain. The cleaner was polite and came to wipe it down, but the odor stayed and the tub never got fixed. On my last night, I woke up with bites on my right arm, hand, and foot. I stayed here over the August long weekend, and bedbugs were my concern. At checkout I showed the bites to Julie at the front desk and explained what had happened. Her response made it seem like this wasn't the first complaint of this kind. She said she'd speak with her manager and follow up. A few days later, she emailed to say the pest control company had come in and found no bedbugs. I know the bites appeared overnight, though. They weren't there when I went to sleep. I'm very disappointed by the cleanliness and service at this Best Western, and I can't recommend staying here.

The bathroom was small, but it had been updated, was very clean, and had everything we needed. The towels were new and really nice, and everything in there worked. The room itself was older, though it looked partly updated, and the bed was comfortable enough. The sofa bed wasn't anything special, but it came with bedding, blankets, and pillows, which was convenient. The building is dated, and the main downside was noisy guests down the hall coming and going until around 3 a.m., probably to smoke. Breakfast at the on-site restaurant came with the room. The food was reasonable, although the pancakes were very small and thin. I would recommend the place. Having an exit door from the room was nice, and the outdoor pool would be great in warmer weather.

We've always found this to be a nice, quiet and comfortable hotel, with very clean rooms and helpful, friendly staff. The decor is a bit dated, but that doesn't bother us. Breakfast vouchers were included with the room, which was great. We were hoping to come back this summer, but the pool is closed!
