Super 8 by Wyndham Saskatoon Near Downtown

We were in Room No. 201 at Super 8 last night, and it was a disappointing stay. The bathroom exhaust fan didn’t work, which was inconvenient, and the room hadn’t been cleaned properly. It was messy, generally dirty, and the towels were dirty too. We expected better facilities and standards. I hope management takes this seriously and improves housekeeping and maintenance for future guests.

The area was rough, but that was expected, and everything else was great. I’d definitely stay again. The rooms were cozy and clean, and housekeeping kept the bedding and towels clean. Service was the downside: I waited at the front desk several times because nobody was there to help. I booked through booking.com, which said breakfast was included, but there was no breakfast due to renovations, or so the website claims.

I messaged after receiving the hotel’s welcome note, but no one offered to move me to a better room. I won’t return. I spend over 50 nights a year in hotels, and this was the worst stay of my life. During check-in, the receptionist took a call about a hotel cancellation and spoke for five minutes. He could have put it on hold until I was checked in. The room was dirty, with dust on every table surface except in the bathroom. The shower handle moved freely and no water came out, so I left in the morning without showering. The toilet shifted a few inches from side to side when I sat on it. There was no coat hanger in the closet, the nightstand drawer was dirty, and its handle was hanging off. The front door was missing its security chain, the bathroom door handle was loose, and the GFI outlet cover was missing screws and wasn’t in place. There were holes from door handle damage and old patches on the walls, and the lamp cover was damaged. I’d rate it below zero if I could.

The one good part was the staff, especially Abdul and one of the girls, who were polite and helpful. The stay with family was terrible, though. Insects were all over the room and hotel, and even my kids didn’t want to use the washroom. The room smelled so bad it was hard to breathe. What we got was completely different from what we booked, because they said the original room was “not available.” It was a bad experience from beginning to end. We won’t come back, and we’ll tell our family and friends about it.
