Travelodge by Wyndham Port Elgin

A terrible stay. The AC was broken, everything was unplugged, and the door lock was faulty. I had to swipe several times to get in, and by the second day it wouldn’t work at all. A staff member gave me the physical key, but that still gave me trouble. There’s no free breakfast at this location, just 20% off the expensive diner. When I asked the manager at checkout if I could get some compensation for the problems, she struggled with the master key to open the door. Once it started working, she said, “Hey, see, it works fine,” and went back into the office. What a joke.

The breakfast was the best part, so I’d grab some before checking out. My stay at the travel lodge is one I won’t forget: the rooms smelled really bad and were dirty. The pictures definitely looked better. It’s not the absolute worst hotel in the area, but it’s nowhere near the best, and I wasn’t pleased with it.

I felt poorly welcomed when I arrived for my first visit to Port Elgin. I’d just gotten there and already knew I wouldn’t come back. Sad. I’ve never stayed at a TravelLodge, and don’t think I’ll try it again.

Harneet, the Manager, was incredibly kind and honest when I called about a Booking.com reservation that had been made for the previous day instead of the next one. He understood what had happened and helped sort it out, staying cooperative and helping me at every step. I’ve never had management go so far out of their way for someone. Thanks, Travelodge, for turning a strange booking problem into a lovely experience. I strongly recommend this hotel.
