Dockside Motel

The staff didn’t say much beyond looking at you, so a simple hello and a bit more customer service would’ve been nice. Still, it was a clean, comfortable place to sleep, with beds that were the nicest I’ve had in a motel. The rooms seemed recently renovated. It’s near the ferry, though getting to places like L'Anse aux Meadows takes a hike. Nothing fancy, but perfectly okay.

We picked this place to break up a long drive, and the restaurant turned out to be good, with delicious food and good service. The cabin was much more dated, and the hard beds didn’t help. On a hot evening, the lack of air conditioning was a problem, and no-seeums got through the screen and bit all of us overnight. Better screens and a few modern updates would make the stay more comfortable for travellers.

The restaurant was fine for both supper and breakfast, with reasonable prices. We stayed before taking the ferry across to Lab, and the hotel worked well for that. Our room had been modernized and came with two twin beds, a microwave, and a mini fridge. It was clean and neat, and I’d be happy to stay there again.

The diner food was delicious, though the portions weren’t especially large. Service was excellent, with the usual NL diner style rather than table service. Our cabin was quiet, conveniently located, and check-in was painless. The unit was incredibly clean and well-appointed, but a bit dated, which was my only complaint.
