The location worked really well for our booking, and the rooms were okay. I noticed some mold on the caulking, which may have been a matter of timing before the next maintenance, but the room was cleaned after every housekeeping visit and we had no other issues. The front desk team was helpful, and the breakfast staff kept things tidy despite the high number of guests. One interaction is why I gave the lowest score. A man, who may have been a manager or security, approached my family and me without introducing himself or wearing visible identification. He had on a winter coat and came across as being on a power trip. I understand and respect the posted hotel policies, but respect has to go both ways. We’ve decided not to stay here again. There are several other options in the same area that meet our needs, and one bad experience can outweigh the good. One bad apple really can spoil it for everyone.

I’d call this a solid three-star hotel. Star ratings in Canada vary a lot depending on the organization, and calling this a four-star property would be a stretch if five means top-tier luxury. I picked Hampton Inn because it had the highest Google rating in Sudbury, and it happened to be the first hotel we came to on the way into town. I’d stay again if I returned, unless a better competitor appeared. It was very good, and a few changes could improve the guest experience. The rooms are spacious, clean, and well maintained, with quick access to and from Hwy 17 at the edge of Sudbury. In both rooms we used on separate nights, though, the bedside table had a power outlet device that looked filthy. The linens were thin and wrinkled, and the low, thin pillows were only comfortable because there were several. Sitting up in bed to watch TV was still awkward. The TV only had HDMI, no Bluetooth. You can enter a code to connect your YouTube account, but it never occurred to me to bring an HDMI cable. The table and bedside lights had very bright bulbs and fixed shades, so you couldn’t adjust their direction or brightness. Blackout curtains were advertised, but the only curtains I could close were sheer. The solid ones were screwed to the ceiling without a track, so they couldn’t be closed. In summer, when it’s light at 6 am, that might be a problem. I asked the front desk and the pleasant, polite employee said he didn’t know about curtains, as he’d only worked there a few months. The corridors smelled stale with cigarette smoke, though the rooms didn’t.

It was just an okay stay, and I didn’t feel well in my room. I asked the night front desk staff about carbon monoxide detectors, but they didn’t know whether the rooms had them. I assumed everyone would know about a safety feature like that, and later found out there are no CO detectors in the rooms. There was a lot of hair in the sink when I arrived. I got in very late and was exhausted, so I washed it away myself, but it was gross. Breakfast was only okay too, with hard, stale muffins and bagels. The price is similar to many newer hotels in town, and unfortunately I didn’t feel this one was worth it.

We booked here several times in 2025 while visiting our daughter at Laurentian, and kept coming back because it was a reliable choice and the best value. The buffet included a hot breakfast, and the rooms, washrooms, and shared areas were clean and well cared for. It’s easy to find just after entering Sudbury from Hwy 69, and booking and check-in were always simple.

The staff were pleasant and our room was clean. What disappointed me was that Gold members seem to matter more than customers with disabilities. There were lots of Gold member parking spaces right beside the front doors for convenience, while customers with disabilities had only one designated space. If you need accessible services, this may not be the place where your wallet is welcome.
