Richard Lake Motel

A good low-cost place to get some rest. We got a room within minutes on our first visit, and the front desk clerk was courteous. The rooms and beds were clean, with that classic roadside feel and traffic rumbling past. When I'm passing through on the way to Toronto, I always think of the Ryan Reynolds movie where he stayed here. If you want to save a couple of dollars while you rest, give it a look.

The shower had dependable hot water, and the fridge, microwave and coffee maker all worked. The wifi was surprisingly fast, though I couldn't find a wall outlet I could use. The facilities were good overall. The floors could've been cleaner, but I had my own slippers, so it wasn't a big deal. There aren't any shops or canteens within walking distance. About an eight-minute drive west there's a Gas+ with a convenience store, and the Tim Hortons next to it seems to be open 24 hours.

You can see the lake from right in front of the motel, and the view is great. Friendly customer service, and the lady at the front desk was nice. No complaints, worth the price.

The rooms were clean, but the bed on my first night was really uncomfortable. I booked a different room for the next night because it had newer improvements, but when I arrived, they'd already rented out the room I reserved. I wasn't impressed and wouldn't recommend the place. When I spoke to the owner, all he said was, “Sorry, but what do you want me to do?” Bad business, if you ask me.
