Holiday Inn Sudbury by IHG

Abdul made our meal at the Holiday Inn Sudbury restaurant especially enjoyable. He was kind, attentive, and quick to help, checking in often and making sure we were comfortable. Kids eat free when you're staying at the hotel, which was a real bonus for our family. We'd happily eat there again.

We had around 58 players, parents, and family members at the Holiday Inn on Regent Street in Sudbury for several days for a youth hockey tournament. Our team had booked dozens of rooms. The players were 9-13 years old, and like kids at a tournament, they wanted to spend time together. We kept things reasonable and followed the 10 p.m. quiet hours. The latest anyone stayed up was around midnight one evening, and there was little noise after quiet time. Months earlier, our team manager had asked about reserving a conference room. The quote was $400 plus 13% tax and a 17% service fee. She said that was beyond our budget and asked if there might be another option, such as a lower rate, a shorter booking, or unused space we could clean ourselves. After that, the hotel stopped responding. Without a space to gather, we tried to make do in the hotel. The manager repeatedly told us we couldn't meet in hallways or public areas. Even parents quietly talking outside their rooms were asked to leave. He said he could hear us “five floors down” in the lobby, which seemed overstated since we couldn't hear conversations in the hallway from inside our rooms. We weren't allowed to sing Happy Birthday or have cake in a common area for the two team birthdays during our stay. Before ordering pizza, we asked if we could use the breakfast area and promised to clean it thoroughly afterward. The answer was “absolutely not,” delivered in a dismissive, patronizing way, followed by, “You do realize you’re not the only guests staying here, right?” We understand hockey teams can be challenging, but a hotel that takes large team bookings should offer some reasonable hospitality. We only wanted a manageable place for the group to meet and celebrate responsibly. Instead, it felt like the hotel was glad to take payment for all those rooms but unwilling to show basic flexibility in return. The experience felt transactional and unwelcoming. We wouldn't stay here again as a team, and my family won't return either.

The hotel worked well for our sporting tournament at Laurentian university. Parking was plentiful, and because the property is large, there are entrances at the back too, depending on where your room is. The highway is only a few minutes away, with gas stations, restaurants, and other places close by. Many are walkable. It's about a 10-minute drive to both downtown Sudbury and the Laurentian athletic centre. Our room was spacious and nicely updated. The bed was comfortable, though the pillows were thick and firm, firmer than I usually prefer. At the front desk, staff were friendly and efficient. The restaurant waiter near the front was especially helpful, joking with us and even insisting on pouring our water. Breakfast service was more robotic, and the food was nothing special. The potatoes and bacon were probably the best parts. I heard from another parent, and my kids agreed, that the bread was stale even before toasting. My kids usually like breakfast sausages, but these didn't impress them. I'd probably try one of the nearby places or get fresh croissants from the bakery. A good stay overall.

Our wedding night went smoothly, and we could enjoy it without stress. The staff working the evening before had everything set up just as we'd pictured, which meant a lot to us. Namrata was wonderful to work with from the start, answering my questions quickly and clearly. She was available on the day as well and went out of her way to handle last-minute requests. We're grateful for how professional and helpful the whole team was. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and would gladly recommend the Holiday Inn for a special event.
