Homewood Suites by Hilton Sudbury

We spent 7 weeks here while I was going through treatments, and the staff checked in on how I was doing and wished me good morning on my way out. They were always friendly and went out of their way for my wife and me. Our room was just right, and being able to cook our own meals there saved us from ordering in every day. Really grateful for the hospitality and service.

Breakfast was good, and the room was clean. The layout worked really well for our large family, but the beds were honestly the worst we've had. The queen mattresses sagged in the middle, so my son and I both slid toward the center. The pullout was full of crumbs, so I had to vacuum it before making it up for the kids. Then the sofa bed was so uncomfortable that I felt bad for them. They're not heavy, but both could feel the springs. It wasn't an expensive hotel, so maybe you get what you pay for. Still, a decent bed matters a lot when you're traveling and hoping to get a good night's sleep.

The rooms were spotless, and the shower had really good water pressure. Breakfast was delicious, one of the best hotel breakfasts I've had, with everything hot. Staff were great too, and the hotel itself is beautiful and clean. I liked the little touch of the TV greeting you by name. We even picked up groceries and made steak and eggs to enjoy in bed.

After a long 5 hour drive to Sudbury, my partner and I checked in around 2am. The woman at the desk was nice, and we went to sleep as soon as we got to our room. We were then woken at 12:00am sharp and told to check out. While we hurried to pack, a woman I took to be the manager spent 20 minutes harassing us and threatened a late checkout fee, saying, “Do you want me to charge you?” We left right away and asked the manager at the front about the charge. She said it was our “fault” and that we were taking advantage. There was no hospitality or customer service in how we were treated. We were charged around $73, almost a fraction of the cost of the night, for leaving 20 minutes later. We paid almost $300 total for a stay of less than 12 hours in a ground-floor room overlooking the pool. We've been coming to Sudbury for years and have never been treated this way by a hotel. We won't stay here again. We meant to book The Hilton Garden Inn, where we've always had a good experience and never had an issue. Booking this place was a mistake.
