City Centre Motel

The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable, but don't stay here if you need a cool room to sleep in. The woman in the office was telling the truth about there being AC, but the units seem to be from the '70s and mostly just make noise.

The room was clean, and the young man at the front desk was pleasant, though he couldn't really help with the problems I ran into. Of the three motels I used on my drive home from Kamloops, this one cost the most, looked the shabbiest, and had the fewest conveniences. I only asked about the seniors' rate because it was featured on the sign. At $69, it was still more than the $49 in Kamloops and $59 at my second stop, and neither of those prices was a seniors' rate. There was no microwave, unlike at the other two places. The tables had old MacTac, and the room's floor was covered in worn, stretched, wrinkled indoor-outdoor carpet. The single chair had no support left, so my 170 lb. body sank into it. The towels were well past their useful life. A notice by the thermostat said it controlled four rooms, so not to adjust it more than two degrees from 69 F. The advertised free coffee was an in-room Rubbermaid container of old coffee, with Coffee Mate and sugar beside it. Shampoo wasn't provided, and neither was conditioner. When I asked at the office if a packet had been missed, the young man said they didn't supply shampoo, checked to see if he could find any, then came back without it. At least the Trans-Canada Hwy is only 100 feet from the door. I didn't hate the place so much as feel it wasn't what it claimed to be.

There were large beetles everywhere, in the bathroom, bedroom, and on the ceiling. My mom even took a sip of her coffee before noticing one floating in the cup. I usually don't mind bugs, but these were too much. I stayed awake trying to get to sleep while thinking about them, and hope this saves someone else from the same nightmare. For $20 more, you can stay at a hotel without bugs. This place isn't worth $89 a night in my opinion. They need to find a solution to the problem. No hotel should have this many bugs.

We were only there for one night, and the room was clean with no problems. The woman who checked us in was really nice, like talking to a friend. Check-in was quick, and since we paid then, she said we could leave the key in the room when we headed out early.
