I’ve stayed in Super 8s for the past three weeks, and this one was by far the worst and most expensive. Super 8 Thunder Bay is very outdated, with hardly any sign of maintenance or upgrades, and the price was extremely high. The door keys wouldn’t work on the exterior doors, and I was told to go around. There was no coffee maker, cups, or glasses in the room. I wouldn’t stay again or recommend it to anyone. I wasn’t pleased, though it was only one night.

At $345.00 for one night, this was a whopping price for a motel that’s two stars at most. I’ve stayed at much nicer motels for at least a hundred dollars less, and this place felt like a dump. I wouldn’t recommend it. My first-floor room had a door at the front and another at the back. People stood outside my door swearing and smoking. I know that wasn’t the motel’s fault, but it still made the stay unpleasant. The front clerk said all second-floor rooms were booked when I asked to move, so I had no choice but to stay. I had to turn the TV way up to get some peace. I couldn’t use the AC because it blew the curtains wide open, leaving people outside able to see in, so I had to keep it off. The floor was sticky too, and I don’t think it had been washed.

The staff were very accommodating, and our room was spacious and very clean. The AC worked great, and the non-carpeted floor was ideal for our two bernese mountain dogs. Perfect for our one-night stay.

That smell was the worst part, it stinks through the whole building and burns your nose. The beds were lumpy and worn out, the toilet had skid marks up the bowl, there was only half a roll of toilet paper, and long hair all over the bed. The breakfast was terrible too. I’ve stayed at Super 8s across Canada, and this was by far the worst. I’ll be contacting someone for a refund 😪

The room looked renovated, and the bathroom was nice for a two-star place. The main room was gloomy, the beds uncomfortable, and the A/C only sort of did its job. I also had to fiddle with the TV to get it working right. Still, the price was the worst part: $290 plus tax for a night in what I’d call one of Canada’s worst cities. There wasn’t really another place to sleep, though. If you’re driving west, I’d stop before Thunder Bay and cover the extra distance the following day.
