HFX Airport Hotel

The only clear plus for me was the complimentary parking. The long-term parkade was chaotic and felt more like a junk yard, and the hotel itself seemed run down. The carpet looked dirty or unvacuumed, and some pillows didn't smell fresh. In Room 158, there was no water in the shower. I mentioned it to the receptionist, who gave a smirky smile and said, “I’ll write it down.” I took that to mean she would note it for repair, but there was no apology. Service felt poor from the start, with tired-looking attendants who seemed to lack customer service skills. Later, I called reception and got no answer. The shuttle was another problem. It was meant to leave 15 minutes before and after the hour, but at 0522 it still hadn't arrived. When it finally showed up, it filled quickly, and since it was first come, first served, some people nearly got left behind. I believe the hotel drove the remaining passengers to the airport in a private car. When I called after arriving at the airport, as advised, they said they'd send a shuttle right away. I stood at the pickup point for 20 minutes in -16C weather, cold and windy, then took a cab back to the hotel parking lot. The taxi driver said the shuttle was consistently unreliable. When I got to the lot, the shuttle was on the property. Frustratingly funny. All in all, a poor stay. I won't stay here again.

The place was being renovated while we were there, and our room, no125, was one of the ones already updated. It was clean and looked like the pictures. The location is convenient, though the services are basic. Nothing to complain about, but nothing especially memorable either.

The front desk staff and the airport location were about the only good parts of our stay. We weren't expecting a five-star hotel, but the whole experience was disappointing, and I can't understand how this place got a 3-star review or a 4.0 out of 5.0. The restaurant in the hotel was awful. The food was overcooked and underwhelming, service took a long time, and we had to ask for cutlery. The couples on either side of us had to ask for theirs too. You'd think they'd bring it automatically. Getting to the room was a hassle. The lobby is so small that only about five people with suitcases can fit comfortably. The tiny elevator is right across from the front desk, so you have to keep saying excuse me while people waiting to check in move their suitcases. The wait for it was unbelievably long, and everyone waiting with luggage was in the way of check-ins. It felt more like a little service elevator than a regular guest one. Once we had our bags in the room, taking the stairs was much easier. The room was plain and very outdated. The fridge didn't work, and there were only a couple of lamps for lighting. The bathroom was tiny and uncomfortable to shower in, with nowhere to put clothes. The shower pressure was low, and the curtain let water run onto the floor. There was a sticker saying not to flush anything but toilet tissue, which is a problem for women, especially since there wasn't a garbage bucket in the bathroom. You have to carry one in and take it back out afterward. I'd recommend staying anywhere else.

Handy for the airport if you just need a place for the night before a flight. The room was clean, but the washroom was tiny and the sink was outside it. Staff were polite, though that's about it. The neighborhood is pretty much dead, and I wouldn't stay here for any other reason.
