The service and food were more like four stars, but the five-star part for me was the experience and the kind, hospitable Ukrainian woman in the bar. Her attentiveness made my night. I was dining alone, and she even took some pictures of me, which really completed a lovely evening. I don't know her name. I ordered classic dishes: French onion soup, foie gras, coq au vin, and creme brulée. The soup was excellent, with a rich, balanced stock. The foie gras was very small and not worth $34. Something seemed off, perhaps the seasoning, or maybe it was grade B. The presentation could have been better, though the strawberry sauce under it was wonderfully done. The coq au vin came in a large portion, was beautifully presented, and had super tender chicken with mash and green beans. Its sauce was rich but a little over-reduced. It was $36, which makes the comparison with the foie gras hard to miss. There weren't many dessert options, but the brulée was sensational and really affordable. Service was quite slow and didn't feel very fine-dining. Still, the cozy atmosphere made it easy to forget I was in Toronto. This place feels completely French, more so than Auberge or Canoe, and I think the food is better. Definitely worth a visit. Finally, a real French restaurant in Toronto.

We had a 7 pm reservation for Valentine's Day and arrived at 6:50, but our table wasn't ready until 7:30. Somehow, the couple behind us with a 7:15 reservation were seated first. The service was very bad. I expected more from a $130-per-person menu, and we spent $400 for the two of us. The food was overpriced and under-seasoned; I wish there'd been salt and pepper on the table. The pasta tasted good, but it was just pasta and sauce, all carbs and nothing else. The sea bream had bones in it, and it was embarrassing having to pick them out of my mouth while my partner watched across the table. This was meant to be a romantic fine-dining meal, right? Dessert was dry, dense, and heavy. A mousse cake would've been better. It was my birthday too, and they did nothing. Thanks for ripping us off and ruining Valentine's Day.

The room looks really nice, and it would be a great spot for a date. The French onion soup was rich and cheesy, definitely worth ordering. Our server recommended getting the beef tartare as a main since we also wanted fries, and that worked out well, it was tasty. The chicken and duck breast were cooked well, but both felt pretty chewy, just okay.

The food looked beautiful, and our server was a pleasure. I especially liked the escargot, and the sticky toffee pudding was a nice way to finish. The French onion soup was decent, while the beef bourguignon tasted good but was somewhat dry and not very tender. Steak frites needed more seasoning, and the jus was only okay. Maison Selby's cozy, chic atmosphere is lovely, but for the price the flavours didn't quite live up to it. With food that matched the setting, this could be a five-star restaurant.

Really beautiful restaurant, and the waiter was friendly. I wasn't keen on the Coq au Vin since it was a bit dry, though the desserts were good. Better knives would have been nice.
