Highland Motel

The mattress cover had lots of urine stains that clearly hadn't been washed, plus a few blood spots. When I raised it with the manager, he said, “I will return your money and you can leave.” I wouldn't recommend this motel to anyone. The owners and property managers should be seriously concerned about how the place is being looked after. I checked in at 10pm, and a guy was there. There wasn't parking in front of my room, so I parked by the office, which wasn't a big deal.

The owner was rude and gave me an unsafe feeling. The smell was intense and rank, and anyone with allergies should stay far away. After our visit, my biggest worry was having to exterminate my daughter's room for bedbugs. The place was filthy and slummish, with a dated bathroom, rusty fixtures, and a mildew smell. The old heater had to be turned all the way up, which took my breath away and made me worry about a fire hazard. I wondered if I should call health and safety. Not friendly or healthy, and a waste of time and money. If zero were an option, that's what I'd give it. Two thumbs down. 👎👎

The owners are friendly, and for the price I'd stay here again. You get a bar fridge, microwave, TV and cable, and the Wi-Fi was okay. I don't get why people post close-up pictures of peeling paint. Who cares? The bed was clean, the towels were clean, and the shower was hot. I love the old motels where you can drive right up to your room, and there's an ice machine outside. I was up early and had plenty of hot water. The washroom looked recently updated. The bed was a bit hard for me, though some people like a harder one. Still beats sleeping on a folding couch at cousin Vonnie's. Spend a night, not a fortune. If you want the Hilton, stay there. If you want a quiet room in a cool small town, this is your spot.

I had a great experience here. The online information showed check-in closing at 10:00pm, but I arrived after 10:30 and had no trouble checking in. Checking out was easy too, and the location was peaceful.
