West End Guest House

I usually have a hard time sleeping somewhere unfamiliar, but the room and guest house felt like home. It was so comfortable, and we slept really well. The room was clean and quiet, with fitted sheets and a gorgeous bathroom. Opening the shutters made the room bright, and we could close them to block the light at bedtime. The TV was easy to use, too. We stayed on a Monday night for a concert, and the service was absolutely amazing. Everyone was so kind to us. We’ll definitely stay here again.

The West End Guest House was cozy and inviting, and we loved the breakfast, especially the homemade pastries, along with the fireplace. The whole staff made our visit feel special, with lots of little touches and excellent recommendations for local food. It’s an easy walk to places like Stanley Park, the seawall, Robson and other neighborhoods and attractions. This was our first time in Vancouver, and Paul was a gracious host who took time to tell us about the house’s history and vision. We’ll definitely be back.

The staff were very nice and professional, though I would have liked more personal interaction with the guests, especially from the hosts, whom we never met. The price was high, but in line with summer rates and hotels in the area. Free parking nearby was a definite plus. The house and location were both fantastic, and the decor and cleanliness were especially impressive. Our bedroom was lovely, but during a heat wave the fan and open windows weren’t enough, even at night. The old house probably explains why there’s no A/C. The bathroom was small but fine; the mattress, on the other hand, was far too soft and deep for us. We were a little disappointed by breakfast, even though it was homemade. Some recipe experiments didn’t work for us. We’ll never forget the “Italian eggs casserole,” which was literally awful, with sausages mixed into eggs cooked in the oven. Our table neighbors weren’t convinced either and ordered from the menu the next day. The homemade muffins were great, though.

We especially loved having a private courtyard where we could relax and unwind. The guesthouse was clean, the rooms were lovely and well kept, and the staff made the place feel warm and inviting. Breakfasts were superb, and the whole stay was wonderful. It’s centrally located in Vancouver, so we could walk to most places. There were also plenty of restaurants to choose from, just one block away on Robson Street.
