I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and quiet the hotel was at night. The staff were accommodating too, and when I asked, they managed to get me an invoice six months after my stay. For solo travelers on a budget who want a more adults-only atmosphere, this could be a good option. At more prestigious hotels, I can easily wake up when kids run in the halls.

The room was fairly clean, though there was a brown mark on the curtain, and the building itself could use more cleaning. We had no heat. The front desk guy brought us blankets, but we'd have preferred to be moved to another room. I got a small partial refund because of the heating problem.

The food was amazing and seasoned just right, and the people here were incredibly understanding. I couldn't be happier with Hotel Royal Plaza. The rooms are old fashioned, sure, but it's a bed and a roof against the freezing temperatures, and the nightly rates are amazing. I don't see why the place would get any lower rating. Thank you, Hotel Royal Plaza! I hadn't expected to spend the night in Winnipeg while traveling by via rail, so I hadn't brought a credit card. That was my mistake. I searched everywhere for a hotel that would take cash only and kept getting snobbery and an attitude that reminded me what Winnipeg is really about. Then I found this place.
