The location is the one good thing about this hotel. The staff felt unprofessional and offered poor service. When I called the front desk, the person didn’t identify the hotel or even say hello, then hung up almost immediately if I didn’t speak first. After checkout, we promptly asked them to look for something we’d accidentally left in the room, but nobody seemed to care. I’ve seen other guests describe the same problem, so don’t forget anything. The shower drained very slowly. There’s no elevator in the annex, and it’s uphill to the main building for the shuttle, which would be hard with heavy luggage. You only get one set of amenities regardless of the number of guests or nights. That’s normal, but when I asked for more, the man at the desk looked annoyed and suspicious and demanded our room number. If there’s a charge, he could just ask politely. The annex room key barely worked. We got several keys, but only one opened the door, and even that took multiple tries. The ceiling had signs of water leaks and mold, which seemed unhealthy and unsafe. The kitchen utensils, especially the kettle, weren’t usable, so bring your own if you need one. Our room wasn’t ready until 6pm. They told us they were waiting for our key because we were in the annex, which made no sense to me. The key card just needs to be prepared at the front desk. They could have simply been honest that the room wasn’t ready and asked us to wait. I’ll never come back. This was the most unpleasant hotel I’ve stayed in. I know Yellowknife’s hotel business isn’t very competitive, but this place really needs improvement.

Fatima gave us a great first impression when we called to book. She stayed on the phone until the electronic confirmation came through and made sure she’d answered all our questions. She was professional and helpful, and even shared a few ideas for what to do when we arrive in Yellowknife. I’m looking forward to meeting her and thanking her in person.

Fatima at the front desk made our stay feel especially welcoming. When we asked for a room with a kitchenette, she quickly arranged the upgrade and checked that everything was right. She was friendly, responsive, and attentive to what we needed. We stayed four days at Nova Inn Yellowknife a few days ago, and found it clean, comfortable, well equipped, and conveniently located for seeing the city. The rooms were spacious and the amenities reliable. We’d gladly return, and hope management recognizes what a great part of the team Fatima is.

I was booked here for four nights while taking a coarse, but the experience was terrible and I won’t stay here again. My room was in a separate building with no parking, so I had to carry my luggage quite a distance. My vehicle was parked too far away for the remote starter to work, and there was no elevator, so I had to haul all my belongings up to the third floor. Even with the heat turned off, the room was 28 degrees while it was -30 outside. I had to open the window to try to cool it enough to sleep, then hooked up the air conditioner as well. There was clearly something wrong with the heating system.

I liked the room and the location, but the reception staff were the most unprofessional and unwelcoming group I’ve had to deal with. The housekeeping team were the only people who were friendly to us, and they were lovely. If you’re taking hundreds of dollars from guests, you should make them feel welcome. A little politeness, a smile, or basic manners would go a long way. Very poor.
