We only stayed two nights, but next time I’d stay longer. It’s a great base for exploring this part of Switzerland, and the value was much better than at the other hotels we used. Our room was quiet, with a great balcony and a comfortable bed. They gave me an extra duvet cover instead of a top sheet, which none of the hotels we stayed at had. There’s an elevator and free WiFi. The room was a little smaller than elsewhere, and there was no air conditioning, hair conditioner, or face cloths. We didn’t need air conditioning during our September visit, and the hotel made up for those gaps in other ways. Breakfast had lots of choice. The breakfast room has a coffee machine available 24/7 for cappuccino, espresso, hot milk, and other drinks, plus tea and hot chocolate. Little cookies are available too, and bread rolls are put out later in the day. It’s all free. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Don’t be put off by the 15-to-20-minute walk from the train station: a bus runs every 3 to 4 minutes from the station to a stop one block away, and the ride takes about five minutes. A bus pass is included in the hotel cost.

Quiet and private, and more like staying in a home than a hotel. It’s simple, unpretentious, comfortable, and generous. The staff are exceptionally kind and helpful. Coffee and tea are available 24/7, and there’s a shared kitchen.

Getting around was easy, with the Bus 20 stop so close by, and the Bern public transport ticket included made exploring the city simpler. I was especially impressed by the generous breakfast selection. The rooms and bathrooms were clean, warm, and inviting, and the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. They seemed to care about making our stay enjoyable. Luggage storage was another welcome extra, as were the complimentary coffee and hot drinks available 24/7. I had a truly wonderful stay.

The neighborhood is beautiful, and the city centre is very close. Hotel Marthahaus had a cozy, family feel, with clean, pleasant rooms and really friendly staff. I stayed nine nights and loved it. I’d happily recommend it.

Getting here from the main train station by bus was convenient, and the hotel is well placed for the city. Breakfast was decent, and there’s a coffee and tea machine available around the clock. The staff were very friendly.
