Hotel La Pergola

The room was clean and nice, and the location was decent. The bathroom and pillow choices felt a little unusual, though neither was bad. It was just too warm for me. Even with the fan they provided and the windows open as much as possible, the room stayed hot.

The staff were friendly and quickly sorted out a problem with my reservation. They even offered breakfast to make up for it. I could also leave my bicycle in the underground garage, although I could only lock it to itself, not to anything there. The room was a big disappointment for the price. I paid 200.CHF for a single bed, but the carpet was dirty, there was someone else's hair on the sheets, and the bathroom was tiny and outdated. It was also very noisy: I could hear every word from neighboring rooms, their TV, and the cleaning staff in the morning. For a really cheap hotel it might be acceptable, but the price didn't feel justified.

Late check-in was flexible, and the location is good, about a quick 10-15 minute walk to the main station. The room was clean, apart from a strong sewage-like smell. There also wasn't a closable bathroom door, which alone is enough to keep me from coming back.

For a short business trip, this hotel worked well. The rooms were clean and adequate for a brief stay, and the price was good compared with other Bern hotels. A public transport ticket for the whole stay comes with the booking, and there's free coffee even if you haven't booked breakfast. It's about a 15-minute walk from Bern Central station.
