I’m still pretty speechless about how this was handled. I’d booked Hôtel Hermitage to see friends before the Lausanne Marathon, then my grandfather died the next day and I had to cancel. I’d only made the booking half a day earlier, for a stay nine days away, but they flatly refused to cancel, saying it was against policy. They even seemed to suggest I was lying about why I was going, and rejected the personal request from booking.com to add to the list as well. They could have done the morally right thing, but chose to keep my money. Policy is policy, I guess. If you want a hotel that treats customers like wallets and has shady policies about your stay, this may be the place for you. Otherwise, there are other places in Evolene that will treat you with far more respect. This place does a disservice to a really lovely town. I’m very disappointed.

They were so kind and caring when I hurt my arm hiking, and let me check in early. The staff were wonderful, and gave us a great dinner recommendation. It’s a beautiful, old-style hotel. Can’t wait to return.

We loved staying in this unique, characterful hotel, which the same family has lovingly run since it opened in the 19th Century. The beds were very comfortable, and breakfast was delicious. It was well placed in one of the most picturesque Alpine villages on our trek. Highly recommended.
