Hotel Kipling

For a short visit, this was very good value, especially with the convenient location and friendly service. The train station is less than a five-minute walk away, and the taxi ride from the airport took about 20 minutes. Reception staff were polite, welcoming and helpful, and the chocolate in the room for Valentine's Day was a lovely touch. We didn't get to try the restaurant. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a large bed and clean bathroom, though it felt a little tired, with marks on the walls and some stains. The bathroom showed similar wear. A soap dish, slippers and robes were among the little things that would have made it more comfortable.

The Kiplingesque style gives the rooms and public spaces a distinctive, elegant character. It's a beautifully designed little hotel, just five minutes on foot from the station and a short walk from the ferries and lake. We found it comfortable and thoughtfully put together. Staff were both friendly and professional. The rate was far lower than at the other hotels we stayed in during our time in Switzerland, which made this a very pleasant experience.

We deeply regret spending even one night here, especially since it was my birthday. Our room faced a construction site, and heavy machinery and nonstop noise woke us early in the morning. There was no chance to sleep or rest. The manager wished us a “pleasant stay,” which felt almost like mockery in the circumstances. A hotel should provide basic comfort. If there's construction nearby, guests need to be told in advance or placed in quieter rooms. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone seeking rest.

We walked to the Xmas market and train station in just a few minutes, and the location was great. The room had plenty of floor space to open luggage, plus a little kitchenette with a sink, microwave and toaster, along with a fridge and espresso machine. It was big, well equipped and reasonably priced. The staff were lovely, gave us lots of information about the city and helped with all our requests. When we asked for more soap and other things, they brought up several bottles right away. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Geneva.
