Hotel Meisser

The terrace view of the mountains was breathtaking, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I only stopped for a coffee and a slice of walnut cake, which was absolutely delicious. Guarda itself is a beautiful village, and the hotel sits right in it. The photos don’t capture how stunning the view and visit are in person. Swiss prices, as expected, but the experience is absolutely worth it.

We went for half board and were very happy with the 4 course dinners each evening, as well as breakfast in the AM. The room was clean and cozy, and the views were amazing. Staff were helpful and friendly. Hotel Messier is a lovely place in the beautiful, quaint village of Guarda. We found amazing hikes starting right outside, and there were plenty of spikes, snowshoes, and poles available for free. We’d absolutely stay again if we go back to Guarda.

Room 16’s windows were the problem for us. Though the room has a balcony and is beautifully furnished, its three large windows along one side have a very obstructed view. They face a solid, grey, steeply sloping roof on the adjacent building, with only about 20% at the top of the window showing the sky. There’s no view of anything else from those windows. The high grey roof faced the beds, so it was all we saw when we opened the curtains in the morning. If you’re hoping for uplifting views and a light-filled room, I suggest adjacent Room 15. It also has a balcony, but the large side windows face the mountains and beautiful valley, and it was much lighter. My advice is to avoid room 16. We stayed at Hotel Meisser at the end of February. It’s a lovely traditional hotel that’s been modernised, with friendly, helpful staff. Guarda is a very pretty village, and its traditional houses are often painted with murals.

This was our second stay at the Hotel Meiser, and we hope we can return. There’s wonderful winter walking from the hotel, with more options using the excellent buses and train, free with the GuestCard. The village of Guarda is beautiful and peaceful. Our room was comfortable and well equipped, the food was good, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
