5th Floor @ Hotel Interlaken

The front desk team were friendly and helpful, but breakfast was a different story. I was rushing to catch a train one morning, so I took a plate of food and grabbed a few pastries to save time. A woman with glasses who looked Asian told me takeaway boxes cost extra. I said I'd eat the pastries then, but she kept at it, saying, “That's fine. But not like that.” It felt like being scolded by my mother. We chose the fifth floor because it was supposed to be more economical, though the room cost over 300 a night and felt like a sad maid's quarter. The hotel looks beautiful from outside and is in a great location. Still, the mattress sagged badly, and there was no AC. That may be common in the area, but I wish the website had made it clear, since August got really hot. Cleanliness needed work too: there was a black hair tie on the nightstand, likely left by the previous guests, and a piece of ramen noodle on the floor, which I recognized as a ramen lover. It wasn't the stay I hoped for, and next time I'd choose somewhere else.

We ended up booking somewhere else because the receptionist, Valentina, seemed annoyed with us and wasn't very helpful while we were trying to arrange a stay.

The staff were welcoming, and the location was convenient, with parking available. We had breakfast included, and the restaurant served really delicious food. Our fifth-floor room at Historic Hotel Interlaken was spacious and clean, with a private bath, a comfy bed, and a water kettle. There was only one flight of stairs to manage with luggage. Highly recommend!

That view from the single room was breathtaking. I often left late in the morning and came back early just to relax and look out at it. In early summer, the lack of AC was fine for me because the air was cool in the morning and evening, and opening and closing the windows was easy. The elevator doesn't reach the floor, so there are stairs, but that wasn't a problem for me. I was traveling solo and had asked about the shared bathrooms after booking because I wanted to feel safe. They put me in a lovely room right beside the shared shower area, which was convenient and gave me real peace of mind. The room was very clean, and the bathrooms had been freshly cleaned whenever I used them. Breakfast was delicious and saved me a lot as a student on a budget, especially in the most expensive country on my backpacking trip. I ate a big breakfast each morning, and the hours were reasonable. The receptionists were super helpful too. They stored my luggage before check-in, gave me a map with places to try and some local discounts, and were kind whenever I came or went. I felt well looked after. I also ate at the restaurant. The food was tasty, though the service wasn't as great. I think the staff may have been confused because I was eating alone while everyone else was in groups of two or more. I stayed in summer 2023 and would absolutely come back to Interlaken. It's insanely good value. The view felt like being inside a painting, and my alarm was the birds, sometimes joined by the musical church bells. Thanks for the kind reply from the hotel too.
